La resucitación cardiopulmonar (RCP) llevada a cabo en el medio extrahospitalario por personal no experto de forma precoz y efectiva ha demostrado una reanimación eficaz sin daño neurológico en los niños hasta en el 70% de las ocasiones. Además, también se ha observado supervivencias del 20–30% en casos de fibrilación ventricular (FV) primaria.
