Abstract

Opioids used for more than five days in sedation, should be withdrawn progressively in order to prevent abstinence syndrome. Methadone are frequently used for this purpose. However, the difficulty in the application of protocols and the difference between patients, make this practice not free of difficulty.

In this review we try to answer or at least suggest guidelines to carry out this practice.
