Abstract

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is a rare entity (5 cases per million population) and comprises 0.5%–3% of all cerebral infarctions. It is more frequent in children and young adults, especially in women, during pregnancy and the puerperal period. It has been described associated with different factors, both local and systemic. Clinical manifestations are variable, the most common symptom being headache. CVST is a difficult diagnostic entity due to its multiple forms of presentation. A high index of suspicion is essential to allow early treatment.

This article presents a case of a 30-year-old woman, with a personal history of a previously known hypercoagulable state and under hematology follow-up, who presented with venous sinus thrombosis in the immediate postoperative period of a scheduled surgical intervention.
