Abstract

During the last decade, ultrasound in critical care units (CCUs) has increased its use as a monitoring and detection system for potentially serious diseases. Its use has not only demonstrated superiority in the diagnosis of dyspnea compared to conventional techniques, but has also led to a change in the therapeutic attitude by incorporating its use in a protocolized manner upon admission of the patient to the CCU. It is also currently the first examination to be performed in a patient in shock.
