Abstract

Introduction

Guidelines of hypernatremia management have been plublished. However, this review has been made with the aim of summarize the hypernatremia pathophysiology in children, focused on its anesthetic implications.

Methods:

The review is composed by information extracted from 1 clinical guideline and 12 papers.

Description:

Mathematical formulas are widely used in hypernatremia management. Algorithms help us to achieve a correct diagnosis. Hypernatremia may be common in the cranial surgery postoperative period. The sodium correction should not be done aggressively in order to avoid complications.

Conclusions:

New technologies such as phone apps and specific recomendations for infants in periopetaive period could help to manage hypernatremia.
