During last few years it has been several guidelines about lung-protective ventilation on patients suffering from ARDS on intensive care units but this review is the first one related to the surgical patient. A group of experts have tried to define and determinate the risk factors envolving postoperatory lung complications and the characteristics of the protective ventilation.
