Guidelines for the management of confirmed influenza infection in the critical care unit

Abstract

The Influenza A infection is a serious disease, as it is a leading cause of acute respiratory failure during epidemic seasons. Some patients develop serious complications because of it, and require mechanical ventilation and support measures for other organic failures which require admission to Critical Care Units. Awareness of information related to the complications arising from Influenza A and proper management of these patients decreases the morbidity and mortality associated with this infection. This document provides an overview of management guidelines extracted from consensus documents in order to synthesize current knowledge about managing   severe patients with Influenza A.
