respiratory distress syndrome, mechanical ventilation, guidelinesAbstract
It is a clinical practice guide with recommendations on the use of ventilatory strategies and some co-interventions in adult patients with ARDS, endorsed by relevant international Critical Care Societies: American Thoracic Society (ATS), Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), and European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM). A panel of experts analyzed the best available evidence addressing 6 questions related to MV: protective ventilation (low tidal volume, low inspiratory pressure), prone ventilation, high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, use of positive pressure at the end of expiration (PEEP) high or low, use of recruitment maneuvers (MR) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. The recommendations were developed applying the GRADE system (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation).
