Anaesthetics without anaesthetists

Recently the Department of Health of Castilla la Mancha in Spain (SESCAM) has published regulations for some anaesthetics (anesthesia outside the operating theatre) to be performed by personnel who are not anaesthesiologists. That is, it allows anesthesia without an anesthesiologist. Circumstance denounced by the Spanish Society of Anaesthesia and Resuscitation danger that this practice will suppose for the patients. So-called deep sedation on colonoscopies may jeopardize patient safety.
