The ultrasound-guided superficial cervical plexus block is a simple technique and, complemented with adequate sedation, may provide adequate conditions for performing the exeresis of the parathyroid gland without the need for general anesthesia. This anesthetic technique favors the early discharge of patients undergoing this type of surgery, who can thus be more easily included in a Major Ambulatory Surgery regimen.
It is a technique indicated for short-term, lesscomplex surgeries in collaborating patients; although it would also be indicated in high-riskpatients avoiding the need for general anesthesia and ensuring greater hemodynamic stability.
