Radical prostatectomy is indicated in patients with prostate cancer, disease confined to the prostate, and a life expectancy greater than 10 years. Minimally invasive techniques (laparoscopic and robotic surgery) are currently the most widely used as they are associated with a lower rate of postoperative complications. However, the risk of occult bleeding and the forced trendelenburg position (together with pneumoperitoneum) required to perform this type of approach pose a challenge for the anesthesiologist and will condition intraoperative anesthetic management.
