Airway management is a great challenge in complex maxillofacial fractures from an anesthetic point of view. Sometimes it is not possible to achieve a secure airway by oral or nasal intubation and a tracheostomy is required. Submental intubation is a simple, fast and safe option, which allows maintaining a secure airway during the surgery. This technique reduces the complications and risks associated with a tracheostomy, especially in pediatric patients. This is a case report of a twelve-year-old patient with a severe craneofacial trauma that illustrates the importance of submental intubation.
