Antioxidantes, ¿una terapia real?

La administración de antioxidantes en los pacientes críticos y quirúrgicos resulta alentadora por posibles efectos beneficiosos en el control del desequilibrio redox presente en estas situaciones clínicas. Hipotéticamente su administración podría reportar efectos beneficiosos de inmediato y en la evolución posterior de nuestros pacientes. En esta decisión, los/as anestesiólogos/as tenemos una responsabilidad enorme si su utilidad se demuestra, obteniendo un beneficio considerable en diferentes resultados. A día de hoy conocemos algunas pautas a través de diferentes guías clínicas y publicaciones, pero ante la disparidad de las conclusiones obtenidas hasta el momento se nos plantea la rentabilidad real de su uso.
