Abstract

Behçet's disease is a systemic vasculitis characterised by recurrent oral and genital aphthae associated with ocular, vascular and cutaneous disease. Clinical manifestations including arthritis, gastrointestinal involvement and central and peripheral nervous system disease. These lesions are the result of inflammation or vasculitis of blood vessels of all sizes on both the arterial and venous sides of the circulation (1,2,3).

We present the clinical case of a young black woman with long-standing Behçet's disease complicated by severe neurological involvement, on chronic treatment with high doses of corticosteroids, who needed emergency surgery for spontaneous intestinal perforations on two times.
