Resumen

Durante la última década, la ecografía en las unidades de cuidados críticos (UCCs) ha ganado terreno como sistema de monitorización y detección de enfermedades potencialmente graves. Su uso no solo ha demostrado superioridad en el diagnóstico de la disnea frente a las técnicas convencionales, sino que además ha supuesto un cambio de actitud terapéutica al incorporar su uso de forma protocolizada al ingreso del paciente en la UCC. Actualmente es además, la primera exploración a realizar en un paciente en shock.
